Waltham Forest were dumped out of this season’s FA Cup by fellow Essex Senior League side FC Romania in a tight affair at Wadham Lodge.

Forest started brightly, but in the end couldn’t find a way through a well-organised Romania side.

The visitors would test Mo Ahmed in the Forest goal all night with their customary long-range efforts, but on 14 minutes Forest broke forward with Bradley Harris delivering a perfect cross to Germaine Dua who smashed the ball home off the underside of the bar.

The experienced Toby Cleaver was the focal point for the Romania attacks, and drew his side level just before half time. Forest were guilty of losing possession with too many bodies forward, and Florin Pop was able to break through into the penalty area. Ahmed sent him wide, and it looked like the chance may have been wasted, but Cleaver was eventually able to find enough space to fire in off the foot of the post, past three players on the Forest line.

There was still time for Abiola Tanimowo to break through, but he couldn’t quite get an effort on goal.

Romania came out firing in the first half, with Pop going close twice and Lupu troubling the Forest defence, before George Taban fired home after a left wing cross.

Forest were on the back foot until the last five minutes of the game, when Tanimowo went closest, but eventually ran out of time and ideas of a way to break through the Romania defence.
