Waltham Forest returned to winning ways with a hard-fought win over FC Romania.
After struggling to get out of the blocks in the last few games, Forest started brightly and were almost ahead after four minutes, Brian Moses lifting over from a tight angle when fed in.
Moses made amends just two minutes later though, flicking in Kubilay Akbayrak’s corner at the front post into the back of the net.
And just two minutes after that, Moses doubled his side’s lead, tapping in unmarked at the back post from Ahmed Mohamed’s cross.
Forest were comfortable and dominant, but let their guard down and were punished. Trying to play out of defence, Forest gave away a sloppy free kick, which was subsequently looped over Harrison Seetah.
Romania went on to miss a couple of good chances before levelling, a shot going in off the near post after a neat one-two on the edge of the area.
But Forest did not lie down, and following the Romania keeper flapping at an Akbayrak corner, Rheo Josephs arrowed the ball into the bottom corner of the net.
Despite their dominance, Forest found themselves pegged back early in the second half. The Romania forward doing his best Tom Daley impression, taking a running leap into the air to earn his side a penalty which was rolled home.
But Forest got their reward for continued pressure as Gareth Madden was first to react as the Romania keeper fumbled another Akbayrak set piece – the goal being confirmed by the linesman despite Romania’s protests.
Forest stood strong, and though Romania did cause a few scares in the Forest box, the home side held on for a sixth victory in seven league games.
