It’s a old football cliché that the best teams know how to win ugly, and Forest certainly proved that last night against West Essex.

It didn’t take long for the deadlock to be broken, with Rheo Josephs robbing a home defender, and allowing Brian Moses to roll the ball through to Volkan Calcalioglu who made no mistake with his finish.

Moses then had a good chance to make it 2, the West Essex keeper saving well after Madu forced a poor back-pass straight to Moses’ feet.

From then it was backs to the wall for Forest, who had a superb back five to thank for keeping the score down – indeed West Essex only really had two shots on target the entire game.

In the dying embers the home side’s right-back was sent off for an off the ball kick on Omar Nyame.

With the numerical advantage, Forest began to push forward, but couldn’t force any clear opportunities.
