Forest dropped out of this season’s Essex Senior League Challenge Cup, but could have progressed if they’d taken some of the numerous chances presented to them.
Qayam Shakoor made plenty of changes from Saturday’s victory over Clapton, including a start for first team coach Gent Mark up front.
The home side had much of the ball, but it was Forest who had the first chance of the match, Mark crossing for Chris Medina who had the ball nicked away from him as he was awaiting a tap-in.
Straight up the other end an FC Romania forwarded headed over from about six yards, and Charlie Coleman, making his debut for Forest had a goal-bound header clared off the line.
But it was Romania who took the lead, Laurentiu’s cross evading everyone and going in off the back post.
An hour into the game Dan Carter looked to have secured Romania’s win with a free header, but this just spurred on Forest as Terry Foxe, Caleb St Luce and Nikko Stokes all had good chances to score.
It was eventually Vicente Belho who got Forest’s goal, smashing home a loose ball following a corner.
Deep into injury time St Luce crossed for Stokes to have the easiest of tap-ins to an almost-open goal, but the ball bobbled just before it got to him and his effort ballooned over.
Forest travel to Cheshunt to take on FC Romania again this Saturday, this time in the Essex Senior League.
