Waltham Forest tumbled out of this season’s FA Cup but went down with a fight against Ryman Premier League side Folkestone Invicta.
Despite Forest’s promising start, it was the home side who broke the deadlock, with Heard the first to pounce on a loose ball and poke past Rhys Madden. However, on another day the referee may have awarded a free kick for the way Heard went in on Madden.
After the opener, it was backs against the wall for Forest as they had to withstand a deluge of attempts from Invicta.
But a minute before half time, Forest got back into the game, with Brian Moses rolling in Rheo Josephs who made no mistake with a powerful finish, nestling in the top corner.
On 62, again against the run of play, Ian Draycott put Invicta in front, reaching a long ball first to slide tackle the ball past Madden.
With 12 minutes to play, Ronnie Dolan was shown a straight red for a high challenge on Ahmed Mohamed, who was stretchered off and required a hospital visit after the game.
Forest weren’t able to make the numerical advantage count though, and in the 97th minute Euan Sahadow put the result beyond doubt with an easy tap-in at the back post.
