In light of our recent well publicised financial difficulties, we would like to clarify our situation.
We were in extreme danger of folding as a club after our then Chairman, Turgut Esendagli sadly passed away earlier this season.
Thanks to many generous people, many of who had no affinity to the club, we managed to raise enough funds to see us through a very worrying time.
The people that pledged in our crowdfunding drive and donated money elsewhere helped us and we are truly grateful to them for this. Without them, it would have been extremly difficult to see the season through.
- There are some people we’d like to extend particular thanks to:
the ex-players of both Leyton Pennant and Waltham Forest for the fundraising day and a special mention to the person that turned up at the gate on the day and made a donation even though he wasn’t staying to watch – a very kind gesture
- the Clapton Ultras, who turned up in great numbers to our home games and those that have been to see us since
- Graham Larkbey, who was seen with a bucket as well as holding the raffle at home games, in raising much needed funds.
These donations enabled us to survive what was a testing few months.
While this fund-raising was going on, we met with several parties. We thank them all for their interest. Not for the first time, Andy Perkins was instrumental in looking for potential investors and setting up numerous meetings with these people.
As a result, the club is now in a more stable financial position. We are focusing on securing our place in the Essex Senior League this season and moving up the league next season, while also ensuring we become self-sufficient as a club.
In short, without those mentioned above, we would be looking at not having a club next season. Our thanks again to everyone who helped us through an extremely difficult period.
